Catching Up On Correspondence

Regular readers of this blog are well aware that this kind of thing doesn’t come easy for me. Other than writing books, songs, and poetry, I tend to be somewhat uncommunicative. It’s not that I’m unfriendly or reclusive, I’ve just never been convinced I had anything worthwhile to say, particularly when it comes to blogging.

At the urging of my nationally famous and ever-charming webmaster, however, I agreed to write blogs for this website, as well as for the new Billy the Kid-oriented site. The experience hasn’t been as painful as I thought it would be.

One of the truly positive aspects of blogging, however, is the subsequent contact made by friends and acquaintances with whom I have had little or no communication for many years. When my webmaster recently informed me that I had a number of responses to my blogs on the site, I checked them out, and I plan to respond to all of them in this space over the next few weeks.

I was surprised and delighted to receive a note from Chester Weems. Chester and I were in graduate school together at the University of Oklahoma during the early 1970s. In addition to his other talents, he is a professional photographer, and he took the photos used in one of my first books, Platt National Park: Environment and Ecology. It was re-released a few years later as Platt National Park: Chickasaw National Recreation Area. Both books are out of print and, I’ve been told, are considered to be collector items.

Chester informed me he was a also storyteller, and was interested in one of my publishers, August House. In addition to my buried treasure series and a number of other excellent publications, August House Publishers is the nation’s largest publisher of storytelling books, both print and audio. They are based in Atlanta, Georgia, these days. They do great work and are a delight to work with.

Thanks for the note, Chester. I was flattered you took the time and was thrilled to hear from you. For more information on all of August House Publishers books, go to their website. To purchase the books in the buried treasure series, go to Amazon.com, or order them from any good bookstore. Or if you wish, anyone contact me at  jamesonwc@gmail.com for personally autographed copies or just to say hi.
