This is all new to me, and frankly the notion of blogging on a regular basis intimidates me for a number of reasons. First, I’m on the road about 280 days each year performing, speaking, conducting research on a book, or engaging in some adventure or another. When I’m home I’m usually trying to meet a publisher’s deadline. I’ve had little time for blogging or anything else.
Second, when I do find free time on the road I rarely spend it with a computer unless I am working on a book deadline.
Third, I wasn’t convinced I had anything important to say. The few times I’ve read other peoples’ blogs, it struck me that many of them didn’t have anything to say either.
And fourth, when it comes to computers, blogging, and related things, I know little or nothing.
I expressed these concerns to my new publisher and my internationally famous webmaster, but they were unmoved. They told me that people wanted to know what was going on with me relative to my books, my treasure hunting adventures, and my music. They said people were interested in the stories behind these activities. Further, they told me that blogging is no different from just talking to people, like I do at concerts, book signings, and speaking gigs.
I promised them I would give it a shot.
So, in short, here is what I have been doing since I got off the road a month ago. I’m getting ready for the release of five new books during the next six months. I also have ten more under contract I am busy writing. Three film production companies are looking at the possibility of turning my novel, Beating the Devil, into a movie. I consult from time to time with screenwriters on a variety of projects. Two weeks ago I signed a contract with HarperCollins Publishing Company for a book about my treasure hunting adventures.
From a writer’s standpoint, I’m excited to be associated with several dynamic series, all of which are either experiencing renewed success or are on the verge of an explosive introduction. More about each of these in future blogs.
I’m also planning to get back into the studio to record my next CD. The aforementioned writing projects have kept me so busy I’ve fallen behind on this production, but I’m anxious to get started.
I will try to blog once a week. Travel, performances, expeditions, and meeting deadlines may impinge on this schedule but I will do my best.
In response to questions and requests I’ve received, I will blog on my treasure hunting books and expeditions, my new Beyond the Grave series, my soon-to-be-released book titled Want to be a Successful Writer? Do This Stuff, the world of music and songwriting as I am involved with it, and anything else I feel like writing about.
In closing, let me invite you to correspond. Given the topics listed above, let me know what you are interested in hearing about from me.
Do you know any Short Sam Stories? I am playing W. C. tonight on the ole music box. Just like to think you are having a good time and somewhere another song is about to come to mind.
