The Intellectual Characteristics of Professional Treasure Hunters

Most professional treasure hunters that I have met over the past four decades, both land and oceanic, were confident in their intellectual abilities and possessed of a variety of valuable educational and personal experience adventures. Some were educated in the formal sense via colleges and universities, and some were self-taught as a result of decades of experience and personal study. All possessed deductive and logical minds along with rich investigative experience. All were well-read, and most were fonts of historical, geological, geographical, and archeological information. Their practical knowledge of diverse topics often exceeded that of many academics I have known.

My partners and I each bring to our enterprises a variety of education and experiences, all of which sustain us and lead to ensuring our survival, if not success. We all possess college and university experience, as teachers as well as students. We all have military experience. We have field, packing, and survival experience. We are comfortable and proficient with weapons, all possessing qualifications as marksmen or sharpshooters. We are all degreed martial artists. We have all shared the experiences of escaping from a hostile country with a recovered cache, of being shot at, and of having to defend ourselves against the shooters. This might seem an absurd qualification, but when a fortune is at stake, defending oneself and protecting the discovery is often one of the consequences and, to extent, responsibilities.

Readers of this blog who long to embark on a treasure hunt may already possess certain skills, attributes, education, and experience far above and beyond those identified here. If so, they have a significant head start. All they need to do is adjust the preparation for an expedition to their own personalities and skills.
